Reaction Paper: Different leadership style

JENEVIE G. ORACOY
We are born to be a leader, but usually, it defends where our preferred field and I see that Leadership is important because it will help us to achieve our personal and professional goals. And I think that each student should learn leadership skills roles because this is an integral part of our education. And it seems that it will help students to be flexible in her/his leadership skill and capability. In my own opinion, leadership skills can really help students to be well equipped when the right time comes to lead the organization, although it is crucial. And others said how we can say that the organization is successful when there is no good leader. A good quote says: “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way and shows the way.” —John C. Maxwell
In addition to that, there is a different style of leadership according to the theories definition. 1st is the Transactional Leadership style discussed by sociologist Max Weber in 1947. This kind of leadership is a little bit strict because you should meet the goal of the task, might get a reward. But, if you didn’t fulfill your duty, there will be a consequence of that. So it involves reward and punishment. When we say transaction, there will be an agreement between the leader and the subordinates..
For example, Juan has assigned a task of his Boss, their agreement that if the transaction between the two companies will collaborate, one of those companies was their big client who had also conditioned them, Juan is a negotiator if he couldn’t make the task successfully may be the consequence will be not lightly. But, if he will achieve maybe the reward is good.
Autocratic leadership is discussed by Kurt Lewin's 1930s, so the full authority is on the person who is in charge of the organization in which he can give an order without any explanation and deciding without consulting his/her subordinates.
The best examples of this, the policeman and military or a doctor, so the situation is like this, a nurse who is on duty which doctor leaves him a task by taking good care of the patient, which is the procedure written on the Doctor's order that you need to follow without any complaining to do that the procedure.
Transformational Leadership started with James V. Downton in 1973, expanded by James Burns in 1978, and in 1985's Bernard M. Bass further expanded this leadership. This kind of leadership style involved taking care of one another. The leader inspires and encourages her\his subordinates with the same goal. So the leader also shows being a good role model.
Like for instance, there is a pastor who preaches Godly words that make people inspire and encourage them. Although some people out there are not of the same religion, but their focus was the same. Or some parents teach her children how to respect others, so the parents should be a role good model to his children who make them inspire to do a proper manner, because according to the quote: Your behavior reflects your personality and who you really are.
Next, Servant Leadership develops by Robert Greenleaf in the 1970s, so the leader become a leader because of the authority of their subordinates, and the subordinates are free to suggest any opinion. like the Philippines, we Filipino had the right to vote for our president in our country like President Rodrigo Duterte contributed many programs for the sake of all Filipino’s, we have the right to appoint a leader, But it depends upon to the performance of the leader how she\he is going to bring/serve the organization being fruitful.
Charismatic Leadership by Max Weber and Robert J. House this kind of leadership has similarities to other leadership styles. Charismatic leadership is where the subordinates depend\rely on the persuasiveness of the leader because they believe that without a leader organization is not lively or is not useful. After all, this kind of organization depends on its success to their leader. They have no guts to do their duty because they are only inspired when the leader is present. Maybe the leader has a potion to make them alive or devoted their duty because of their leader’s charm. The subordinates are very dependent on their leader, but this kind of leader only believes in her/his capability than relying on her\his team.
Like for instance, there is a cheerleader competition during the actual presentation the leader does not yet arrive, so the team member is getting worried because maybe their leader will become late, so the member might lose a desire and had mix emotions unknowing what to do because they believe they can do perfectly the competition if the leader is around.
Democratic Leadership or Participative Leadership develop by Daniel Goleman So this kind of leadership, the leader took opinion from her\his team members, so the reward is not only for the benefits of the leader but also to the team. Although the leader who will make the final decision but She\He tends to put a test or assessment\evaluation to what extent their ability in case they will face during difficulties or crucial situations in the future, they will be experts already to handle it.
Like for instance, the CEO of the company develops an assessment or exhibit like Lack Of Proper Marketing, Getting And Retaining Customers, Money Management. So this would be the concept of their exhibit to solve this crisis how they are going to handle according to their plan or decision.
Laissez-Faire Leadership by Kurt Lewin this leadership style where the leader let her \his subordinate to decide any decision as long as his\her subordinate can handle the problem successfully.
Like for example, Senators in the senate had proposed a program to solve the crisis facing right now, So the process of approval of the program in the senate had a long process because the Senators will be having a debate first before it will pass to the President for approval. The President will let them decide what would be the best program being imposed among the Senators in the senate.
Bureaucratic Leadership by Max Weber in 1947 This type of leadership style is strict. The leader imposed policies, And members should follow the step-by-step procedure according to what rules being imposed.
So this leadership was very accurate or useful, especially during emergencies and some precautions, etc. So this kind of leadership was also used during Ancient Greece and roman going back thousands of years until now. Like for instance, the DOH mandated health protocols like wearing masks, handwashing, and social distancing that we must follow for safety and health precaution.
I was already set different examples base on what I understand about this topic. Moreover, we will talk about my version of this topic. My ideas inspire me and encourage me to be a leader someday or a good role model, So It doesn't mean that you are a slow learner cannot be a leader. However, As I said above depends upon how you approach learning among those styles of leadership. I know it takes time to be a leader, And there are many simple things that you can be a leader. Like your siblings, you can teach them how to be wise and how to be responsible for their assignments or to do a house chore. Consequently, It makes sense that you are a good leader because your sibling obeys your orders. So among those 8 example leadership styles, I love to choose to be a democratic leadership because this is not only for the one person could benefit from it but as a team. I agree with this leadership because this type of leadership let her subordinates to suggest their own opinion. So their ability will be assessed or evaluate to what extent. This makes me think that, if this is a kind of leadership, maybe the organization had a strong foundation because the leader wants her\his subordinates to be prepared for whatever crisis comes.
And, if you will ask questions. Which among those leadership styles do you disagree with? For me, Autocratic leadership because not all people could understand what the superior like to indicate. Some people need a valid reason because they are worried that if they might get involved in some illegal. The organization will become fruitful if there is unity, and you know what you are doing. In this kind of leadership, the leader took the right of her\his subordinate to ask and be informed. I think if this organization had this kind of leadership, maybe they may have a conflict or some misunderstanding because the subordinates are maybe confused. And finally, Therefore, I conclude a leader should not bias toward his\her subordinates. We need coordination/collaboration not only with one person but also with one another or had teamwork. I know many leaders use different leadership styles, and I respect that. But for me, this democratic leadership was useful for some organization nowaday's, because they carefully select or had an assessment or ask some other opinion to their subordinate whatever decisions have been made within the organization. This makes me think that if this is a kind of leadership in every organization, I think we can achieve our goal, or it will last.
